I was born in Pennsylvania as Janice Sweeney. When I married Perry Joplin, I became famous overnight, but I've always said my greatest work of art is my son, Ian. I began working in ceramics as an apprentice with several different potters while earning my degree in Fine Arts at San Antonio College.
I work primarily in ceramic stoneware and mix most of my glazes. Although my first love is clay, I also occasionally paint and work with metal and glass.
No matter what I'm working on, I'm always using bright colors and patterns to add a "fun" factor.
I moved to Texas in 1980 and studied art with a passion. My home studio is surrounded by my art, all of them bright and whimsical like my "Fun Seeker" cow. The "Fun Seeker" was a life-sized cow I donated to the Houston Cow Parade, which benefits M.D. Anderson's Children's Cancer Clinic. It's covered in my signature "Beach Ladies," who are all out to have fun.
You can find my work at the River Art Group gallery and Texas Clay Fest
